Netsuite
A step-by-step guide to setting up a Netsuite integration.
Pre-requisites
Here’s what you’ll need to connect to Netsuite:
- A NetSuite administrative account
- The SuiteAnalytics Connect Service enabled, with access to either the NetSuite.com or NetSuite2.com data source
- If you choose the NetSuite.com data source, you’ll also need:
- A NetSuite login email
- A NetSuite password
- A list of permissions required for the NetSuite tables you want to sync
Gathering these permissions is often complex. We recommend that you work with your NetSuite administrator to identify relevant ones for your needs. If you want to generate the list yourself, you can also use the Excel spreadsheet from the NetSuite Permission Documentation.
Supported data
Runway reads these financial statements from Netsuite:
- Income Statement
- Balance Sheet
How data is handled
The data pulled from Netsuite is converted into databases in Runway, letting you connect drivers to line items in these financial statements.
Connecting to Netsuite
- Go to the Integrations Directory in Runway, and search for Netsuite. We recommend selecting the option listed under the ‘Fivetran DataWarehouse’ category. Click
+ Set up
to begin.
- Authorize the new schema name. We recommend keeping the default name as-is.
- You’ll be directed to our integration partner, Fivetran, to connect your Netsuite instance.
- Enter your credentials, then select
Save & Test
.
- You’ll be redirected to Runway, the initial sync will begin, and a new database will be created.
Pulling data from Netsuite
Pulling in data is as easy as filling out a quick form.
- In a
New Query
window, use theAssistant
to select the report you want to pull in. - Make sure to match the name of your query with the type of report you’re bringing in—it’ll be used to name your database later on.
- [Optional] If you’d like to segment your data, you can segment your ‘Income Statement’ by ‘Class’ and/or ‘Department.’ These will feed into dimensions in Runway.
- Click
Run
to test your query. Doing so will return a limited number of rows, so you can familiarize yourself with the schema and how it’s represented in Runway. - If the data looks good, update the limit field to the total number of rows.
- To be safe, you can also enter a Very Large Number™️ like 1,000,000.
- You should now see a new database on your left nav bar in Runway, with the same name that you’d entered for your query in step 1.
All done. You’re ready to start modeling! 👩💻
